What exactly is a drinking competition?
A "zuipbeker" is a Flemish term for a drinking competition between teams at an event. Teams — often with creative names like "The Foamheads" or "Bar Tornado" — try to collect as many drinks as possible together during a party, fair, camp, student activity or night out. The team with the most drinks at the end wins. The drinking-cup challenge is a widespread tradition in Flanders, popular with youth movements (Chiro, Scouts, KSA), student clubs, sports clubs and groups of friends.
Which events is Bar Battle suitable for?
Bar Battle is suitable for any event where teams compete against each other in a drinking competition. Think of parties, fairs, youth-movement camps, cantus drinking ceremonies, student parties, corporate events, sports-club activities, festivals and nights out. Whether you organise a big event with dozens of teams or a small night with two squads: Bar Battle works in any setting.
How many teams can I create?
Unlimited. There's no limit on the number of teams you can create per event in Bar Battle. Whether you have 2 teams or 50, the app can handle it.
How many participants can take part?
Unlimited. There's no limit on the number of participants per event. Anyone who enters the access code and is approved by the admin can join in and add drinks for their team.
Can I manage multiple events at the same time?
Yes. A single account can manage multiple events at once and also join multiple events as a participant. Handy if, for example, you organise a party on Friday and a fair night on Saturday, or if you take part in one event while managing another.
How do I invite other people?
As an admin you generate a unique access code in the app when you create an event. Share that code with your bar staff or participants — via a message, in person or on a poster. Others open Bar Battle, enter the code and request access. You as the admin then approve them. That way you have complete control over who has access.
What exactly does the admin do?
The admin is the manager of the event. The admin creates the event, adds teams, generates and shares the access code, and approves participants who request access. The admin has full oversight and control of the event.
What rights do participants have versus the admin?
Approved participants can add drinks to the teams' counters and view the real-time standings. Only the admin can create or delete teams, approve participants and manage the full event settings. That way control stays with the organiser.
Does the app work offline?
No. Bar Battle syncs all drinks and the standings in real time between all participants and the external scoreboard. This requires an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data). Without a connection, no drinks can be recorded.
What does Bar Battle cost?
Nothing. Bar Battle is completely free and contains no in-app purchases, no subscriptions and no hidden costs. All features are available without limits.
How is my data stored?
Your data is stored securely via Firebase, Google's cloud platform. Bar Battle handles your data with care. See our privacy policy at privacy.barbattle.app for all the details about data processing and your rights.
Can I share the scores after the event?
The standings stay visible in the event's scoreboard in the app, even after it's over. That way you can always look back at who won.
Does the external scoreboard website also work on a TV screen?
Yes. The scoreboard website at scoreboard.barbattle.app is specially designed to display fullscreen on a big screen, projector or TV. Connect a laptop or media player to your screen, open the URL and the live standings appear automatically. Perfect for keeping the tension going in the venue or at the bar.
What if I accidentally add too many drinks?
Don't panic. The admin can correct the counter so mistakes are quickly put right. On top of that, the activity log always lets you see who added what when, so a mistake is easy to track down.
Can I track different drinks with their own point values?
Yes. For each event you set up which products (drinks) you sell yourself — for example beer, Aperol or rosé wine — and you decide what point value each product gets. That way an Aperol or cocktail can count for more than a beer. You can add, edit or remove products at any time via the "Manage products" screen in the app.
Can I see who added what to which team?
Yes. Bar Battle has a built-in activity log in which every entry appears. Each line shows who added drinks, for which team, which product it was and the exact time. Ideal for reviewing the night afterwards or for instantly seeing how a score was built up in case of a dispute.
Which devices does Bar Battle work on?
Bar Battle is available for Android and iOS. The external scoreboard at scoreboard.barbattle.app runs in any modern browser — including on a laptop, tablet or smart TV.
In which language is Bar Battle available?
Bar Battle is available in Dutch. The app was developed in Flanders by Devoli and is initially aimed at the Dutch-speaking market.
